Infested Stone

Infested Stone is a deceptive variant of stone, cobblestone, deepslate, and stone bricks that spawns silverfish when broken without Silk Touch. It has the same texture as its regular counterparts but takes less time to break. If a silverfish is attacked nearby, hidden silverfish in surrounding infested blocks emerge to attack the aggressor. Infested blocks cannot be obtained in item form and are available only through the Creative inventory or commands.

These blocks generate naturally in strongholds, igloo basements, and woodland mansions. Infested stone and deepslate also appear underground in certain mountain biomes, replacing stone, andesite, diorite, granite, tuff, or deepslate. Additionally, infested blocks can be created when a silverfish burrows into a regular stone-type block.

Breaking an infested block with any tool, except one enchanted with Silk Touch, releases a silverfish that immediately attacks the player. Infested blocks break twice as fast as their normal counterparts, making them identifiable when mined. In Java Edition, they can also be distinguished using the debug screen. In Bedrock Edition, placing a note block on an infested block produces a flute sound, whereas regular stone produces a bass drum sound.
