Redstone Dust

Redstone Dust is a material used to transmit Redstone signals, allowing players to create Redstone circuits, automated contraptions, and mechanical devices. It is the foundation of all Redstone-based mechanics in Minecraft.

Redstone Dust is obtained by mining Redstone Ore, which is commonly found in underground caves between layers 1 and 16. It can also be obtained from Witch drops, dungeon chests, temple chests, and trading with villagers. Each Redstone Ore block drops 4–5 Redstone Dust when mined with an Iron Pickaxe or better.

To use Redstone Dust, the player must place it on a solid block. It connects automatically to nearby Redstone components, forming Redstone circuits that transmit signals. A Redstone signal can travel up to 15 blocks before weakening and requires a Redstone Repeater to extend the signal further. Redstone Dust can be powered by Redstone Torches, Levers, Buttons, Pressure Plates, Blocks of Redstone, and other Redstone sources. Redstone Dust can be broken instantly by hand or with any tool.
