Buried Treasure Map

The Buried Treasure Map is a unique type of explorer map used to locate buried treasure chests hidden beneath beaches and shores. These maps are marked with a red “X” that indicates the exact location of the buried loot, making them a valuable tool for treasure hunting in survival mode.

A Buried Treasure Map cannot be traded for; instead, it is found as generated loot inside chests within shipwrecks or ocean ruins. In Java Edition, they appear in 100% of map chests in shipwrecks and with moderate chance in underwater ruins chests.

When held and viewed, the Buried Treasure Map displays a stylized layout of nearby land and water. The player’s position is shown as a small white dot that grows in size as they approach the area shown on the map. Once the player enters the mapped region, the red “X” becomes visible, pinpointing the chest’s location.

Unlike standard maps, Buried Treasure Maps are static and do not update to show newly explored terrain. They serve a single purpose: to lead players to a specific buried treasure chest that contains valuable items like the Heart of the Sea, TNT, emeralds, and iron.

Buried Treasure Maps can be placed in item frames for decoration or used in navigation. They can also be cloned using a cartography table, preserving the marked location on each copy. These maps are essential for players seeking hidden loot beneath the sand and are often collected for their rarity and utility.
