Wind Charge
A Wind Charge is a consumable ranged weapon item that can be thrown to unleash a blast of wind, knocking entities back and interacting with various redstone components. Originally used by breezes as their main form of attack, wind charges can also be crafted by players using a breeze rod, or found in trial chambers as loot—either from vaults or ominous vaults, with the latter offering higher quantities.
When used, the wind charge is consumed immediately, and it enters a brief cooldown period of 0.5 seconds before another can be used. During this cooldown, all other wind charges in the player’s inventory are also temporarily disabled, shown by a white overlay in the hotbar. Wind charges can be thrown manually or fired from dispensers. When fired, they fly in a straight line but with a small random spread, creating a cone-like arc. They are affected by gravity and can be deflected by melee attacks or other projectiles, similar to ghast fireballs.
Upon hitting an entity, the wind charge deals 1♥ damage and knocks the target back approximately 2.5 blocks—unless the entity has knockback resistance (such as a warden or ravager). If it hits a block instead, it still produces a burst of wind. If launched through fire or lava, the wind charge ignites and, in Bedrock Edition, will light entities it strikes on fire. The wind burst can interact with various blocks: flipping fence gates, trapdoors, and levers; pressing buttons; ringing bells; breaking chorus flowers and decorated pots; and extinguishing lit candles.
Wind charges come in two forms: those shot by breezes (internally called breeze_wind_charges) and those thrown by players or dispensers (wind_charges). The player/dispenser variant deals 10% more knockback but has a smaller area of effect. Additionally, when used to propel a player upward, fall damage is only applied if the player falls below the Y-level of the wind burst's point of impact.
Wind charges serve as both a utility tool and a combat item, capable of triggering redstone contraptions, breaking fragile blocks, and launching the player or mobs through the air. Their versatility makes them a powerful and strategic resource in exploration, puzzle solving, and creative combat scenarios.
