End Midlands is a Java Edition-exclusive biome found on the outer islands of The End dimension. It occupies the transitional zone between the elevated terrain of the End Highlands above and the barren outer rim known as the End Barrens, effectively forming the sloped midground of each outer island. The biome is composed almost entirely of End Stone, as chorus trees — common in the End Highlands — do not grow within the End Midlands.
One of the most notable features of End Midlands is that End Cities can generate here, making this biome an important destination for players seeking elytra wings and shulker shells. Because End Cities are among the most sought-after structures in the game, locating a End Midlands slope is often a key step in late-game progression. Players should explore the outer islands thoroughly, as the biome's position on island slopes can make End City structures easier to spot from a distance.
The only mob that spawns naturally in End Midlands is the Enderman, which appears in groups of four. The biome was added to Java Edition in version 1.13 as part of a broader subdivision of the outer End islands into distinct sub-biomes. It was initially called 'The End - Medium island' before being renamed to End Midlands in snapshot 18w19a. Prior to Java Edition 1.18, it held the numerical biome ID of 41, though those IDs have since been removed from the game.
