This harmless variant can be obtained through crafting, found naturally in soul sand valleys near Nether fossils, or acquired via piglin bartering. The dried ghast serves as a fascinating decorative block with special hydration mechanics.
The dried ghast crafting recipe requires 8 ghast tears arranged around 1 soul sand in a crafting table. It naturally generates with Nether fossils in soul sand valleys, having a 33.3% spawn chance. Piglins also offer it through bartering with approximately 2.13% probability when given gold ingots.
When placed in water, the dried ghast begins rehydrating over approximately 20 minutes, gradually developing a brighter appearance and smiling expression before transforming into a ghastling. The process reverses if water is removed. Additionally, dried ghasts emit distinctive cracking sounds when placed on soul sand or soul soil, adding atmospheric ambiance to Nether builds.
