Soul Sand

Soul Sand is a block found naturally in the Nether and ancient cities. It slows down the movement of players and mobs walking on it unless they wear boots enchanted with Soul Speed. It is primarily used for growing Nether Wart, crafting soul-related blocks, creating bubble columns, and constructing the Wither.

Soul Sand generates in Nether biomes such as soul sand valleys and can also be found in bastion remnants and Nether fortresses. Piglins may barter Soul Sand when given a gold ingot. It can be mined with any tool, though shovels break it the fastest.

Placing Soul Sand under source water blocks creates an upward bubble column that lifts entities to the surface. It can also be used to summon the Wither by placing three Wither Skeleton Skulls on top of a T-shaped Soul Sand structure. When set on fire, it produces Soul Fire, which burns indefinitely. Additionally, placing Soul Sand under a note block produces a cowbell sound.
