Red Shrub

Red Shrub is a non-solid decorative plant found growing naturally in dappled forests. Unlike most plants, it ignores biome tinting, so it always keeps its red color no matter where it grows. It breaks instantly with any tool or by hand, always dropping itself — except when lava flows over it, which destroys it without a drop. Water flowing over it, a piston pushing into its space, or the block beneath it being removed will also break it and drop the item.

Red Shrub can be planted on grass block, mycelium, podzol, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, farmland, mud, muddy mangrove roots, moss block, or pale moss block, though it cannot be placed in a flower pot like most other plants. Applying bone meal to Red Shrub can grow another one on a neighboring block, giving players a way to spread it without waiting for more natural generation. In Bedrock Edition, Red Shrub can also be snowlogged, letting snow layers rest on top of it.

Beyond decoration, Red Shrub has a practical use in composting: dropping it into a composter gives a 30% chance of raising the compost level by one. It carries a hardness and blast resistance of 0, so it offers no resistance to explosions and can be gathered without any preparation.
