Piston
The Piston is a Redstone component that pushes blocks when powered. It is commonly used in Redstone contraptions, doors, traps, and automated farms. A Piston is crafted using 3 Wood Planks of any type, 4 Cobblestone, 1 Iron Ingot, and 1 Redstone Dust in a 3×3 crafting grid. It does not generate naturally and must be crafted by the player.
When powered by Redstone, a Piston extends its wooden arm, pushing the block directly in front of it. When the power is removed, the Piston retracts, leaving the pushed block in place. A Piston can push most solid blocks but cannot move Obsidian, Bedrock, Crying Obsidian, End Portal Frames, or certain tile entities like Chests and Furnaces.
A Piston can be powered by Redstone signals from sources like Levers, Redstone Torches, Redstone Repeaters, and Powered Rails. It can also be used in Redstone circuits to create block-swapping mechanisms, secret doors, and flying machines. A Piston can be mined with any tool, but pickaxes break it the fastest. Unlike a Sticky Piston, a Piston does not pull blocks back when retracting, making it useful for one-way pushing mechanisms.
