Zombie Villager

Zombie Villager is a zombie variant that can be cured into a normal villager using a golden apple while under the effect of Weakness. They spawn naturally like regular zombies but can also appear when villagers are killed by zombies.

Zombie Villagers drop 0–2 rotten flesh upon death, which can be increased with the Looting enchantment. If killed by a player, they drop 5 experience.

Zombie Villagers cannot be bred, but they can be cured and turned back into normal villagers. To cure a Zombie Villager, the player must first inflict Weakness using a Splash Potion of Weakness, a Lingering Potion of Weakness, an Arrow of Weakness, or an area effect cloud from an explosion of a creeper inflicted with Weakness in Java Edition. Players can also use the /effect command if cheats are enabled. Once the Zombie Villager has Weakness, the player must use a golden apple on them. The curing process takes 2–5 minutes, during which the zombie villager shakes and emits red particles. Once cured, it returns to a normal villager and can resume trades. If cured within a village, it may also offer discounts on trades as a sign of gratitude.

Zombie Villagers are hostile mobs and behave like regular zombies, attacking players and villagers on sight. They burn in sunlight unless they wear a helmet or are in water. If they infect a villager, the villager will also turn into a Zombie Villager, making outbreaks possible in villages.
