Respiration is an essential helmet-only enchantment in Minecraft that extends underwater breathing time and reduces drowning damage, making it invaluable for ocean exploration, underwater mining, and searching ocean monuments. This aquatic survival enchantment has a maximum level of III and is crucial for extended underwater activities.

Players can obtain Respiration through enchanting tables, trading with librarian villagers, fishing for enchanted books, or discovering it in monster room chests and various non-village structure loot. The enchantment also drops from raid mobs in Bedrock Edition, providing multiple acquisition methods for underwater explorers.

Respiration extends underwater breathing time by 15 seconds per level, providing up to 60 total seconds underwater with Respiration III (including the base 15 seconds). Additionally, it grants a chance to avoid drowning damage each second, with Respiration III offering a 75% chance to negate drowning damage completely.

The enchantment pairs excellently with turtle shells for an additional 10 seconds of breathing time, making it the premier choice for players engaging in underwater construction, treasure hunting, or exploring deep ocean biomes and structures.
