Basalt Deltas generate in the Nether as broken volcanic terrain of basalt columns, blackstone and magma blocks, with lava pooling between the ridges and grey ash drifting down. The jagged, maze-like ground makes them the most treacherous Nether biome to cross.

What is special about Basalt Deltas?

Basalt Deltas are the best place to gather blackstone and gilded blackstone - blackstone is a full cobblestone substitute for stone tools, furnaces and brewing stands, while gilded blackstone has a chance to drop gold nuggets when mined. Magma cubes spawn here heavily and drop magma cream for fire-resistance potions, and the basalt itself polishes into a clean grey building block. The trade-off is the terrain: endless lava and steep basalt columns make it the hardest Nether biome to travel.
