The End is a remote dimension in Minecraft consisting of floating islands drifting above an infinite void. The landscape is built almost entirely from End stone, and the environment lacks any daylight cycle, weather, or visible sky — only a faint ambient glow and an occasional purple flash illuminate the surroundings. A large central island serves as the player's arrival point, while the outer islands begin approximately 1,000 blocks away and stretch toward the world boundary.
Accessing The End requires locating a stronghold using Eyes of Ender, finding the portal room, and inserting eyes into all 12 End portal frames to complete the gateway. Each frame has a 10% chance of spawning pre-filled during world generation. Stepping through the portal places the player on a small obsidian platform near coordinates (100, 49, 0). Without prior preparation, the only way to leave is by dying or by defeating the Ender Dragon — the dimension's primary boss.
The Ender Dragon patrols the central island atop ten obsidian pillars, each crowned with an End Crystal that continuously restores its health. Destroying those crystals and defeating the dragon rewards up to 12,000 experience orbs, opens the exit portal, and triggers the End Poem credits sequence. The dragon can be summoned again any number of times by placing four End Crystals around the exit portal.
The outer islands of The End host End cities guarded by shulkers, with End ships occasionally generating alongside them. These ships are the only source of elytra and the dragon head. Endermen spawn freely throughout The End, and several standard mechanics work differently here — beds and respawn anchors detonate when used, compasses and clocks behave erratically, and fire burns indefinitely on bedrock surfaces.
