Poplar Fence Gate

Poplar Fence Gate is a functional block that combines the properties of a fence and a door, permitting players and mobs to pass through when open while acting as a solid barrier when closed. Crafted from poplar planks, the Poplar Fence Gate carries the soft, light gray tone characteristic of poplar wood, making it a visually distinct choice for enclosures and boundaries.

When placed, the Poplar Fence Gate automatically orients itself toward any adjacent fence or wall blocks and can face any of the four horizontal directions. Right-clicking toggles it between open and closed states; when open, the gate swings to the side and the space becomes fully passable, while closing it restores the barrier. It can also be controlled remotely via a redstone signal, and a manually opened gate will emit a weak redstone signal to neighboring components. Placing a Poplar Fence Gate atop a fence segment raises the effective barrier height to two blocks, which helps prevent mobs from jumping over.

Like other wood-type blocks, the Poplar Fence Gate is flammable and can ignite from nearby lava or spreading fire, so placement near heat sources warrants caution. Axes break it most efficiently, though any tool or bare hands can be used. In Bedrock Edition, the Poplar Fence Gate supports waterlogging, allowing water to occupy the same block space without displacing the gate. When placed adjacent to a note block, it causes that note block to produce a bass instrument sound, offering a minor acoustic use in musical builds.
