Poplar Sign is a non-solid decorative block crafted from poplar planks, designed to display custom text on its face. It can be placed freestanding on the ground, mounted against the side of a block as a wall sign, or positioned within flowing water, since the Poplar Sign supports waterlogging.
The text displayed on a Poplar Sign can be recolored using dyes, and applying a glow ink sac causes the lettering to remain legible even in complete darkness. Clicking an unwaxed Poplar Sign reopens the text-editing interface, allowing the message to be revised at any time. Applying a honeycomb waxes the sign, preventing any further text edits; an axe can remove the wax coating if changes become necessary.
A Poplar Sign can be broken and retrieved by hand or with any tool, though an axe breaks it the quickest. Collected signs stack up to 16 in a player's inventory. When placed beside a note block, a Poplar Sign causes that note block to produce a bass instrument sound.
Because poplar planks are a renewable material, the Poplar Sign is also considered renewable. It has a blast resistance and hardness of 1, which makes it among the more fragile blocks available in the game.
