Quick answer: Desert Wells are small sandstone wells dotted across desert biomes — and since 1.20 each hides Suspicious Sand to brush for archaeology. This finder marks desert-well locations at a measured 74% accuracy on Java and 97% on Bedrock.

Where do Desert Wells generate?

Desert Wells generate on the surface of desert biomes in the Overworld — a small ring of sandstone, slabs and a central water source. They are uncommon and easy to miss among the dunes, which is why a seed finder helps.

How do I find a Desert Well from a seed?

Enter your seed and the finder marks desert-well locations. Open a marker for coordinates and travel there. Since 1.20, bring a Brush — the block of Suspicious Sand at the bottom can be brushed for archaeology loot.

What is inside a Desert Well?

Originally pure decoration, desert wells gained an archaeology role in the Trails & Tales update: a single Suspicious Sand block sits at the base. Brush it gently to recover pottery sherds, emeralds or sticks — breaking the block destroys the contents.

Does the finder work on Bedrock, and how accurate is it?

Yes — both editions, Minecraft 26.2 (Java) and 1.26.40 (Bedrock). Desert-well markers are verified against real generated worlds on both, and publish a measured 74% on Java and 97% on Bedrock. Wells place as a sparse surface decoration rather than a fixed structure, which is why the marker is labelled "Likely" — and why the two editions read so differently: Bedrock's placement rule is the one we can reproduce most closely, so its markers land on real wells more often than Java's do.
