Stony Peaks

Stony Peaks are a mountain peak biome found at high altitudes within moderately warm temperature zones, making them one of the less commonly encountered biomes in Minecraft. The terrain generated within a Stony Peaks can vary considerably — from modest hilltops barely cresting Y=160 to dramatic solitary spires, encircling mountain rings, or severely rugged landscapes that push all the way to the world height limit of Y=256. Bordering biomes typically include forests and savanna plateaus, and occasionally jungles, while Stony Peaks will never appear adjacent to mangrove swamps or windswept savannas.

One of the most distinctive features of Stony Peaks is the complete absence of a grass or dirt surface layer. Stone, calcite strips, and gravel patches are exposed directly, giving the terrain a raw, geological appearance. Emerald ore and infested stone generate here as they do in other mountain peak biomes, but iron ore and coal ore deposits are notably more abundant and more frequently exposed at the surface than in almost any other biome. Pillager outposts can occasionally generate within Stony Peaks, though no passive mobs will spawn here at all.

Beneath the surface of a Stony Peaks, the deep dark biome is guaranteed to form at greater depths and tends to extend to higher elevations than it does elsewhere. Above the deep dark, dripstone caves are common, with lush caves appearing less frequently. The combination of exposed ores and deep cave systems makes Stony Peaks a useful destination for resource gathering, though the hostile-only mob spawning and treacherous elevation present real risks to any unprepared player.
