Poplar Fence

Poplar Fence is a decorative wooden barrier block that belongs to the poplar wood set, crafted using poplar planks and sticks. Like all overworld wooden fences, the Poplar Fence has a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 3, meaning it can be broken by any tool, though an axe will speed up the process considerably. When broken, it always drops itself, so no materials are wasted.

One of the defining behaviors of the Poplar Fence is its ability to automatically connect to adjacent fences of any wood type, as well as fence gates and most solid opaque blocks. This makes it straightforward to build cohesive enclosures without any manual configuration. Despite appearing only one block tall in the world, fences effectively act as 1.5-block-tall barriers, preventing mobs and players from hopping over without a fence gate or other workaround. A matching poplar fence gate can be placed within the fence line to allow controlled passage.

The Poplar Fence is transparent to light and can be waterlogged by placing a water source in the same block space, which opens up possibilities for underwater structures and decorative builds. It is also flammable, meaning lava nearby can set it alight — a notable contrast to nether wood fences, which resist fire entirely. As a furnace fuel, a single Poplar Fence burns for roughly 15 seconds, making it a modest but usable energy source. On in-game maps, the Poplar Fence renders as a light gray color.
