Red Poplar Leaves

Red Poplar Leaves are one of three color variants of poplar foliage — the others being orange and yellow — added to the game alongside poplar trees. Red Poplar Leaves form the canopy of poplar trees, which grow throughout dappled forest biomes.

Like other leaf blocks, Red Poplar Leaves are transparent and gradually decay once they lose their connection to a nearby log, though a player-placed block never disappears on its own. Breaking a leaf by hand usually yields nothing, but there's a small chance of a sapling or a stick dropping instead; a hoe is the quickest way to break it, while shears or a Silk Touch tool are needed to collect the block itself. Leaves can also be smelted into leaf litter.

Red Poplar Leaves stand apart from most other leaves because their red hue comes from a fixed texture rather than a biome tint, so the color never changes with location. With a non-stripped log on one horizontal side and poplar leaves of the same color on the other three, Red Poplar Leaves occasionally rustle with their own ambient sound, audible from up to 12 blocks away. They can be waterlogged, are flammable, and will catch fire from nearby lava.
