Poplar Sapling

Poplar Sapling is a non-solid nature block that, when placed on any variety of dirt (excluding dirt paths) or a moss block, can grow into a full poplar tree. The block passes through two internal growth stages before the tree forms. For natural growth to progress, the block directly above the Poplar Sapling must receive a light level of at least 9. If you want to skip that requirement, applying bone meal to the Poplar Sapling will force it to advance regardless of the surrounding light conditions.

Collecting Poplar Sapling is straightforward. Poplar leaves that decay on their own or are broken without shears or a Silk Touch-enchanted tool carry a 5% chance of dropping one. The Fortune enchantment can raise this drop rate noticeably — reaching up to 10% at Fortune III. Like most saplings, the Poplar Sapling can also be broken instantly by any tool or even bare hands, and it will always drop itself when harvested this way.

Players who prefer trading over gathering can purchase a Poplar Sapling from wandering traders at a price of 5 emeralds each. In Bedrock Edition, there is an additional method: if a wandering trader is displaying a sapling trade when killed while the player holds an emerald, there is a 25% base chance of the trader dropping the offered sapling type, with each level of the Looting enchantment adding a further 1% to that chance.
