Players can right-click the face of the Poplar Hanging Sign to open a text editor, allowing up to several lines of custom text to be entered. Dyes can be applied to alter the text color, while glow ink sacs make the lettering visible even in complete darkness. To prevent other players from editing the text, a honeycomb can be applied, waxing the Poplar Hanging Sign and locking its contents in place.

It is flammable and can catch fire if exposed to nearby lava, so placement in hazardous environments should be considered carefully.
