Protection

Protection is one of the most versatile armor enchantments in Minecraft, offering comprehensive damage reduction against nearly all sources of harm. This essential enchantment can be applied to helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots, with a maximum level of IV providing optimal defensive capabilities.

Players can obtain Protection through enchanting tables, fishing for enchanted books, trading with librarian villagers, or finding it in structure loot and mob drops. The enchantment's widespread availability makes it accessible at different progression stages.

Protection reduces incoming damage by 4% per level on each armor piece, allowing maximum damage reduction of 64% with Protection IV on all armor pieces. Unlike specialized protection enchantments, Protection works against all damage sources except hunger, warden sonic booms, void damage, and the /kill command.

The enchantment is mutually exclusive with Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection, making it the preferred choice for general survival gameplay.
