Shelf Mushroom

Shelf Mushroom is a fungus that grows directly on poplar logs in dappled forests, appearing on both standing and fallen trees as well as on poplar trees grown from saplings. It comes in two sizes, small and large. Shelf Mushroom can be broken instantly with any tool or by hand, and it also breaks on its own if the block it is attached to is destroyed or moved, if water or lava flows into its space, or if a piston disturbs it. A small one always drops itself, while a large one drops two.

Once placed, it can be attached to any block face with a full solid surface, and unlike red and brown mushrooms, Shelf Mushroom has no light-level requirement for placement or survival. A small one grows into a large one only when bone meal is applied, since it never grows on its own. Its signature trait is bouncing: an entity landing on Shelf Mushroom rebounds at 75% of its impact velocity, though it still takes fall damage, calculated from half the actual distance fallen, so a fall onto it hurts noticeably less than a normal one.

Shelf Mushroom is a crafting ingredient in mushroom stew, rabbit stew, and suspicious stew. In mushroom stew and suspicious stew, it can be used interchangeably with red or brown mushrooms. Placing one in a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by one, and the wandering trader occasionally offers three of them in exchange for an emerald.
