Trident is an item in Minecraft. It can be found in chests.
Trident is an item in Minecraft. It can be found in chests.

The Trident is a powerful melee and ranged weapon found exclusively as a rare drop from drowned mobs. It can be used for both close-combat attacks and thrown to deal high damage from a distance, making it one of the most versatile weapons in Minecraft. Unlike bows and crossbows, the Trident does not require arrows, but a thrown Trident must be retrieved unless enchanted with Loyalty, which causes it to return to the player. Other enchantments like Riptide allow the player to launch themselves forward in water or rain, while Channeling enables the Trident to summon lightning during thunderstorms when striking a mob.

Due to its high damage and unique enchantments, the Trident is a sought-after weapon for both PvE and PvP combat.

How anvil combining works

  • Combine your Trident with enchanted books on an anvil — each merge stacks the enchantments from both.
  • Every anvil use adds a prior-work penalty, so the order you merge in changes the final XP cost.
  • Any step that reaches 40 levels shows as Too Expensive in Survival mode.
