Netherite Spear
Netherite Spear is the highest-tier variant within the spear weapon class, obtained by upgrading a diamond spear at a smithing table using a Netherite Upgrade smithing template alongside a netherite ingot. It surpasses the diamond spear in both damage output and durability, while inheriting the slow attack cadence that defines the spear family as a whole.
The Netherite Spear offers two distinct attack modes. A jab attack, performed while standing on the ground, deals 5 damage in Java Edition or 6 damage in Bedrock Edition, with a recharge cooldown of approximately 1.15 seconds. Holding the use key initiates a charge attack, lowering the spear into a striking position where damage scales with the combined velocity of the attacker and their target, and contact can dismount riders from their mounts. Sustaining the charge too long shifts the weapon into a shaking state that removes the dismounting effect, and holding further still produces a dropped-down position that eliminates knockback while keeping full damage intact.
The Netherite Spear has a durability of 2031 on Java Edition or 2032 on Bedrock Edition, an enchantability of 15, and an attack range spanning 2 to 4.5 blocks — a notably extended reach compared to most melee options. It cannot be stacked in the inventory and is classified as non-renewable. Players looking for a challenge related to the Netherite Spear can pursue the "Mob Kabob" advancement, which tasks them with striking five mobs simultaneously in a single charge attack.
The Netherite Spear was first revealed at Minecraft LIVE in September 2025 and subsequently introduced in Java Edition snapshot 25w41a and Bedrock Edition Preview 1.21.130.20.
