Crimson Forest

Crimson Forest is a Nether-exclusive biome defined by its dense fungal canopy and striking deep red aesthetic. It ranks as the second most common biome within the Nether dimension, making up roughly 22% of the Nether's total volume. Notably, the Crimson Forest is one of only two Nether biomes where players can gather wood without returning to the Overworld, as huge crimson fungi — which grow exclusively in this biome — serve as its trees.

The ground in the Crimson Forest is blanketed primarily in crimson nylium, with patches of netherrack and Nether wart blocks spread throughout. A deep crimson fog hangs in the air alongside drifting blazing particles, lending the biome an eerie and oppressive atmosphere. Overhead, the broad canopies of massive crimson fungi trail weeping vines, and shroomlights nestled within them provide dim ambient lighting. Smaller crimson fungi, crimson roots, and scattered warped fungi also appear across the forest floor — the warped fungi naturally discouraging hoglins from the immediate area around them.

The Crimson Forest is the only naturally generated location outside of bastion remnants where hoglins can be found. Piglins wander in loose groups, zombified piglins appear in smaller numbers, and striders roam the lava lakes threaded through the landscape. Open lava seas and lava springs present frequent hazards, while clusters of glowstone dot the ceiling as they do throughout the rest of the Nether.

Structures including Nether fortresses, bastion remnants, and ruined portals can all generate within the Crimson Forest, giving it considerable strategic value during mid-to-late game progression. Its reliable wood supply and varied mob population make it a worthwhile, if dangerous, biome to explore.
