Stronghold

Stronghold is an underground structure in the Overworld that contains the End Portal, the only way to access the End dimension. Strongholds can be located using an eye of ender, which guides players to their position.

Strongholds are made primarily of stone bricks, including mossy, cracked, and infested variants. They generate with various rooms, such as libraries, storerooms, prison cells, corridors, fountains, and staircases. Each stronghold always includes one End Portal Room, which features a silverfish spawner and a 12-frame end portal, some of which may already contain eyes of ender.

Strongholds contain loot chests scattered throughout specific rooms like libraries and altars. Libraries may have one or two levels and include bookshelves, oak planks, chests, and cobwebs. Lighting varies, but most rooms are dim enough to allow hostile mobs to spawn, except libraries, which are fully lit.

In Java Edition, strongholds generate in rings around the world center (0, 0), with up to 128 strongholds across 8 rings. In Bedrock Edition, they spawn randomly with no set limit and often generate beneath villages.
