It is primarily decorative and comes in over 2,700 different color and pattern variations, making it one of the most visually diverse mobs in Minecraft. Tropical Fish drop 1 Tropical Fish upon death, which cannot be cooked. They also drop 1–3 experience when killed.
Tropical Fish cannot be bred, but they can be caught with a water bucket and transported to aquariums or artificial ponds. Tropical Fish swim in small schools and move randomly within the water. They are hunted by axolotls and will try to escape if attacked. When placed on land, Tropical Fish will flop around briefly before suffocating. Since they have no functional use beyond decoration, they are often used to enhance underwater builds and aquariums.
