Name Tag

A Name Tag is an item used to rename and customize the names of mobs in Minecraft. It can be crafted from one paper and any metal nugget (iron, gold, or copper), and is also found through fishing and in dungeon, mineshaft, and woodland mansion chests, or bought from wandering traders.

To use a Name Tag, it must first be renamed in an anvil, after which it can be applied to a mob by right-clicking. Named mobs do not despawn naturally, making them useful for keeping pets or special mobs in place. Some names have unique effects — naming a sheep jeb_ makes it cycle through colors, and naming a mob Dinnerbone or Grumm makes it appear upside down.
