Windswept Savanna

Windswept Savanna (Savanna Mutated) is a rare and dramatically rugged variant of the standard savanna biome, characterized by towering cliffs, massive overhangs, floating islands, and cascading waterfalls and lavafalls. Its terrain can reach as high as Y=256, making it one of the more visually striking biomes in the game. Large lakes frequently gather at the feet of these immense rock formations, adding to the chaotic, almost otherworldly landscape.

The surface of the Windswept Savanna is a mixture of grass blocks and coarse dirt, with broad expanses of exposed stone visible across the terrain. Sparse vegetation is present in the form of scattered acacia trees and the occasional oak, along with short grass. Notably, tall grass does not generate here, and neither do villages or pillager outposts — features that distinguish it from its more common counterpart. Despite the extreme altitude of the Windswept Savanna, the deep dark biome does not form in the underground layers beneath it.

The enormous overhangs that define the Windswept Savanna cast enough shadow to reduce surface light levels to cave-like conditions, allowing hostile mobs to spawn even during daylight hours. The biome's mob population largely mirrors that of the regular savanna: armadillos, horses, donkeys, and warm-weather variants of common passive animals roam the area, while zombie horsemen appear at night. In Bedrock Edition, llamas also make their home in the Windswept Savanna, adding one more point of difference between the two game versions.

The Windswept Savanna generates in regions of high erosion and weirdness values combined with medium continentalness and temperate-to-hot temperatures, often found near coastlines, small islands, swamps, or alongside windswept hills.
