Jagged Peaks

Jagged Peaks is one of Minecraft's highest-altitude mountain biomes, generating across cold to moderate temperature zones. The terrain is composed almost entirely of exposed stone, topped with a thin layer of snow blocks and dusted with snow layers above that. Depending on the world's continentalness, erosion, and weirdness values, the peaks can vary considerably — from modest stone hilltops just above Y=160 to solitary spires, encircling ridge formations, or extreme massifs that press against the generation ceiling near Y=256.

Jagged Peaks is notable for its unusually rich ore distribution. Emerald ore, iron ore, and coal ore all generate here more abundantly than in most other biomes, making the exposed cliffs particularly rewarding to mine. Infested stone lurks deeper underground, and the steep north- and east-facing cliff faces may carry only a sparse snow covering. Pillager outposts are the only structures that can appear in this biome, and their cobblestone platform bases often grow quite large to compensate for the dramatic terrain changes beneath them.

Goats are the main passive mob found roaming Jagged Peaks, while Bedrock Edition also includes rabbits and polar bears among the local fauna. Beneath the surface, deep dark biomes are guaranteed to form under jagged peaks terrain, with dripstone caves occupying the mid-depths and lush caves occasionally present as well.

The Jagged Peaks biome is typically bordered by slope biomes such as groves and snowy slopes, with meadows or pale gardens sitting at lower elevations. It never generates adjacent to swamps or windswept hills. When it meets an ocean, the coastline forms dramatic cliffs, and any nearby river valleys either become deep fjord-like channels or are replaced by elevated land biomes entirely.
