Wooded Badlands (Mesa Plateau) is a humid variant of the badlands biome found in the Overworld. Unlike the standard badlands, the Wooded Badlands generates at higher humidity values, which causes it to frequently border jungle and bamboo jungle biomes. At lower elevations or near coastlines with stony shores, it transitions into desert terrain, and its plateaus can reach as high as Y=256 in mountainous regions.
Above Y=97, the plateau tops are covered in grass blocks and coarse dirt, dotted with small oak trees, dead bushes, leaf litter, and patches of short dry grass. The foliage carries a muted greenish-brown hue — darker than that seen in savanna biomes — lending the Wooded Badlands a weathered, drought-stricken character. Below this grassy cap, the landscape reverts to the familiar badlands palette: bands of colorful stained terracotta in shades of orange, red, yellow, white, brown, and light gray, alongside red sand, cacti, and dead bushes. Gold ore also generates more frequently here than in most other biomes.
Despite the relatively vegetated plateau surface, the Wooded Badlands receives no rainfall and maintains an arid temperature of 2.0. Badlands mineshafts, built from dark oak planks rather than the standard oak, appear much closer to the surface and are often more exposed than ordinary mineshafts. The biome's high humidity and low erosion values encourage lush caves to form underground, while dripstone caves may appear further inland.
The Wooded Badlands is home to armadillos and warm variants of farm animals, including Warm Cows, Warm Pigs, and Warm Chickens. The Striped Wolf variant spawns exclusively within this biome. Standard hostile mobs such as creepers, zombies, skeletons, spiders, endermen, and witches appear at night as they do across most Overworld biomes.
