Cold Cow
Cold Cow is a passive mob introduced in Minecraft 1.21.5 (Java Edition) and 1.21.70 (Bedrock Edition) as part of the "Spring to Life" update. It is a climate-based variant of the standard Cow, sharing the same core mechanics while featuring a distinct appearance suited to colder environments. The Cold Cow is recognizable by its light-brown, fluffy coat and large, forward-pointing dark horns, a design clearly inspired by real-world Highland cattle.
Unlike the default Temperate Cow, which spawns in moderate biomes like plains and forests, the Cold Cow generates naturally in cold-climate biomes. These include the Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old-Growth Pine Taiga, Old-Growth Spruce Taiga, Windswept Hills, Windswept Gravelly Hills, and Windswept Forest. A third variant, the Warm Cow, occupies hot biomes, rounding out the trio of temperature-based cattle in the game.
In terms of behavior and drops, the Cold Cow functions identically to a regular Cow. When killed, it drops between 1 and 3 Raw Beef — cooked if the animal dies while on fire — along with 0 to 2 Leather. Players can milk a Cold Cow using a Bucket, attach a Lead to guide it, and breed it using Wheat. When two cows of any variant breed, the resulting calf inherits the variant of one of its parents at random, rather than being assigned a type based on the surrounding biome.
