Old Growth Pine Taiga

Old Growth Pine Taiga (Mega Taiga) is a dense overworld biome characterized by towering 2×2 trunk spruce trees that climb to remarkable heights, their arrow-shaped silhouettes bearing only sparse foliage near the crown. These giant conifers give the Old Growth Pine Taiga a cathedral-like canopy that blocks out much of the sky below. A neighboring variant known as the Old Growth Spruce Taiga features mega spruce trees whose leaves wrap all the way around their trunks, distinguishing it visually from the standard Old Growth Pine Taiga.

Rather than ordinary grass, most of the ground is covered in podzol and coarse dirt, punctuated by small rocky formations made of mossy cobblestone. The understory is thick with ferns, large ferns, dead bushes, sweet berry bushes, and mushrooms — which appear in noticeably higher numbers here than in most other surface biomes. Trail Ruins can occasionally be found within the Old Growth Pine Taiga, though villages and pillager outposts do not generate here at all.

This biome forms at moderately low temperatures and very high humidity, placing it commonly beside regular taigas and dark forests on the world map. Its elevated humidity level means lush caves tend to generate almost directly beneath the surface. Snow can fall above roughly Y=200, though this is only visible on the slopes of particularly tall terrain. Black wolves, foxes, and cold-variant livestock all inhabit the Old Growth Pine Taiga.

When Vibrant Visuals is enabled, the Old Growth Pine Taiga gains a semi-humid volumetric fog with a faint orange tint in the distance, combined with cool color grading that nudges the environment toward blue tones and cold sunlight that brightens subtly at dusk and dawn.
