Windswept Forest

Windswept Forest (Extreme Hills Plus Trees) is a heavily forested variant of the Windswept Hills biome. It generates in high-humidity regions across medium to cold temperature ranges, and is commonly found bordering forests, taigas, and swamp biomes. At higher temperatures it can appear near windswept savannas, though it never directly adjoins windswept gravelly hills.

The terrain of the Windswept Forest shares the same rugged, steep hillsides as standard windswept hills, but the surface itself is blanketed by grass rather than exposed stone. Spruce and oak trees grow in sparse clusters across the slopes, with occasional bushes dotting the landscape. Underground, the biome's high humidity encourages lush cave generation, while dripstone caves may form beneath it in areas located far from coastlines.

One of the more notable qualities of the Windswept Forest is that emerald ore generates here naturally, making it one of only a handful of biomes where this ore can be found. Coal ore and iron ore also appear at higher elevations, and infested stone containing silverfish is present underground. The steep cliffside terrain tends to expose these resources along rock faces, which can be useful early in a survival playthrough.

Llamas spawn in the Windswept Forest alongside cold variants of common farm animals, including cold chickens, cold pigs, and cold cows, as well as the usual hostile mob types. When Vibrant Visuals is enabled, the biome takes on a coolish, humid volumetric fog, cold sunlight, and a blue-tinted color grading that reflects its high-altitude, chilly atmosphere.
