Old Growth Birch Forest (Birch Forest Mutated) is a rare variant of the standard Birch Forest biome, distinguished primarily by the exceptional height of its birch trees. Roughly half of all trees here grow trunks reaching up to 14 blocks tall — often called super birch trees — and these towering specimens are unique to the Old Growth Birch Forest, as they cannot be cultivated from a regular birch sapling. Bee nests may occasionally appear on any tree in the biome, and fallen logs can stretch as long as 14 blocks across the forest floor.
The Old Growth Birch Forest generates in regions of positive weirdness on the terrain map, frequently appearing alongside regular Birch Forests, rivers, Forests, Dark Forests, Taigas, Jungles, oceans, and temperate mountain biomes. Its relatively high humidity level means that Lush Caves often form beneath it when the biome generates near a coastline, though inland occurrences may not share this underground feature. Trail Ruins structures can also generate here, setting the Old Growth Birch Forest apart from its more common counterpart.
The ground layer is covered with grass and a variety of flowering plants, including Rose Bushes, Lilacs, Peonies, Lily of the Valley, and Wildflowers, with scattered bush clusters adding further variety to the understory. During daylight hours, passive mobs such as Sheep, Chickens, Pigs, and Cows wander through the Old Growth Birch Forest, while nighttime brings hostile mobs including Creepers, Skeletons, Zombies, Spiders, Endermen, Witches, and Zombie Villagers. Bats serve as ambient creatures, and Glow Squids also spawn here in Bedrock Edition.
