Bookshelf

The Bookshelf is a decorative and functional block primarily used to enhance Enchanting Tables. It is crafted using 6 Planks of any type and 3 Books in a 3×3 crafting grid and does not generate naturally outside of structures. Bookshelves generate in villages, strongholds, and some woodland mansions, where they serve as decorations or part of library rooms.

When placed near an Enchanting Table, Bookshelves increase the maximum enchantment level available. A total of 15 Bookshelves is required to unlock level 30 enchantments. They must be positioned within two blocks of the Enchanting Table, with an air gap between them.

A Bookshelf can be mined with any tool, but axes break it the fastest. When broken without Silk Touch, it drops 3 Books but does not return the wooden planks. Unlike a Chiseled Bookshelf, a Bookshelf cannot store individual books, making it primarily useful for enchanting setups and decoration.
