Deep Ocean

Deep Ocean is one of the largest and deepest aquatic environments found in the Overworld, distinguished from the standard ocean by a seafloor that sits far lower. This considerable depth is the result of very low continentalness values during world generation, which pushes the Deep Ocean well away from land. It sits within the medium temperature band and borders the deep lukewarm ocean on its warmer side and the deep cold ocean on its cooler side. The only land biome it can directly neighbor is the mushroom fields.

The seabed of the Deep Ocean consists largely of gravel, and the floor is blanketed by dense growths of kelp and tall seagrass, which appear in notably higher concentrations here than in shallower ocean variants. Scattered among the terrain are shipwrecks and ocean ruins, each containing loot for explorers willing to dive into the darkness. Most significantly, ocean monuments generate within the Deep Ocean, making it a habitat for guardians and elder guardians.

The presence of the ocean monument makes the Deep Ocean one of the more hazardous underwater biomes in Minecraft. Elder guardians inflict the Mining Fatigue status effect on nearby players, posing a persistent obstacle to anyone attempting to loot the structure. Beyond the monument, the waters are populated by cod, salmon, dolphins, squid, and nautiluses, while drowned mobs patrol the darker reaches of the seafloor, adding further danger to extended dives.
