Savanna is an arid grassland biome that generates in moderately warm, low-humidity climate zones. It commonly sits alongside plains, forests, deserts, badlands, and mangrove swamps, and can appear near jungles without directly sharing a border with them. In more elevated terrain, the Savanna transitions upward into savanna plateaus before giving way to stony peaks, while regions close to swampland border the windswept Savanna variant instead.
The landscape of the Savanna is largely flat and open, scattered with acacia trees and the occasional small oak. Tall grass covers much of the ground, and dandelions and poppies grow at roughly twice the frequency seen in most other biomes. The grass and foliage carry a distinctive olive-green hue that reflects the biome's dry character. Because the climate is classified as arid, rainfall does not occur here, and lightning cannot strike naturally — though dry thunderstorms can still take place, enabling hostile mob spawning on the surface during the night.
Villages constructed from terracotta, acacia logs, and acacia planks are a common sight in the Savanna, and pillager outposts may also generate within its boundaries. In terms of wildlife, the Savanna is one of the few biomes where armadillos spawn, and llamas appear here as well in Bedrock Edition. Warm variants of chickens, pigs, and cows roam the grasslands alongside horses, donkeys, and the occasional zombie horseman.
When using the Vibrant Visuals renderer, the Savanna takes on warmer colour grading that shifts the environment toward orange and yellow tones, while moonlight renders as a more vivid shade of blue.
