Golden Spear
Golden Spear is a melee weapon in Minecraft belonging to the spear weapon family, representing the gold-tier variant of that class. It is crafted using gold ingots and sticks, and while it ranks as the seventh-highest tier among spears, it shares the same base jab damage as a wooden spear — 1 HP in Java Edition and 2 HP in Bedrock Edition. Its durability is notably limited, sitting at just 32 in Java Edition and 33 in Bedrock Edition, making it one of the more fragile weapon options available.
Where the Golden Spear distinguishes itself is in its enchantability, which reaches 22 — the highest of any spear variant. This makes it a practical candidate for enchanting despite its short lifespan. The weapon also features a 0.95-second attack cooldown. Like all spears, the Golden Spear supports two attack modes: a jab attack performed while grounded, and a charge attack triggered by holding the use key. The charge lowers the spear into a thrust position and deals velocity-scaled damage. As the charge progresses through a shaking state and then a dropped-down state, certain effects such as dismounting and knockback are lost, though full damage continues to apply.
The Golden Spear also has a notable connection to piglin mobs. Piglins and zombified piglins have a 5% chance to spawn already holding one, and players or tamed wolves who defeat such mobs have an 8.5% base chance of receiving a drop, rising to 11.5% at Looting III. Piglins on the ground will pick up a Golden Spear and inspect it for six to eight seconds before pocketing it, consistent with their attraction to gold. It also qualifies as a piglin-loved item for bartering purposes and can be smelted into a gold nugget.
