Iron Spear
Iron Spear is a melee weapon available in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, crafted from iron ingots and sticks. It occupies the third-highest tier among spears in the game, outclassing the stone spear in both attack damage and overall durability. However, the Iron Spear attacks at a slightly slower rate than its lower-tier counterpart, which is a trade-off worth considering in combat situations.
The Iron Spear supports two separate attack modes. A jab attack is executed while the player stands on the ground, dealing a fixed amount of damage and then entering a recharge period before it can be used again. The second mode, a charge attack, is triggered by holding down the use key, which causes the player to lower the Iron Spear into a readied position. Damage from this attack scales with the player's movement velocity at the moment of impact, and it can also unseat riders from their mounts. Holding the charge for too long, however, diminishes the attack's effectiveness — notably removing any knockback from the hit.
Players can obtain a Iron Spear through crafting, or by searching buried treasure chests and village weaponsmith chests. It also has a chance to drop from several undead mob types, including zombies, husks, zombie villagers, zombie horsemen, and camel husk jockey riders, each with an 8.5% base drop rate when holding one. A heavily used Iron Spear can be smelted down into a single iron nugget, offering a small return on a depleted weapon.
